Today's question comes from Carm,
"What is the difference with publish service and export with presets?"
This is a great question because the way Publish Service and Exports work in Lightroom are very similar. In this video I cover the differences and a little of how I use each - there are very good reasons to use both at different times in your workflow.
Also, a few reference links from the video:
You totally astound me with what you know and do with your photos! One day I hope to have a minuscule knowledge of what you have. In the meantime, I love being motivated and learning from you.
By the way, I finally made that first import to LR. Your encouragement helped. So, thank you.

Kayla,
This is great. I haven't used the publish services in LR3 yet. But now I will. I have two questions.
1) For the blog photos - I think I got in from watching your video but just want to confirm (I apologize for making you repeat yourself). Your process that you are still saving those images to a folder on your desktop. And from there you will upload them to your blog. The reason you use the publish instead of export is so you can track it within LR - correct? Is there a way to automatically post to the blog from withing LR3?
2) This is not related to this video but to the LR class. When you want to open a photo that has LR adjustments in PSE to scrapbook with do you export it as a JPG or use the "edit in" function. If you use the edit in function does it bother you that there are now two copies of that photo in your system?
Thanks,
Sue

No way to post from within the blog as of yet. :) Hopefully soon. (Im really hoping they add Google+ as well).
The biggest frustration using Photoshop Elements over Photoshop CS is that you do get that extra image. However, if you dont make changes, you can always delete it or if you do make changes, you have your LR original plus the exported JPEG with your images. You can also stack them in your library so they only look like one image - just click the number on the top left (says 1 of 2) to stack and then again to unstack.
Hope that helps!

Hi Kayla
Can I please make a suggestion ? ...Could you please try to talk a little slower ?...Now that you are "International" it is hard for others to understand your accent and follow what you are saying, I know you only have a certain amount of time to get all that you are teaching on to video, but if it can't be understood (internationally) it is such a shame !!

Thanks Mandy - that is great feedback! I will do it! I would have never know had you not stopped by to say something - thank you!! I have just one more tutorial in the blog set for Tuesday and after that I will slow down. :) Also for future work, would it be helpful to have things in writing even if they are English? Id love your feedback on that. Thanks again. :)

Thanks Kayla for another great video. I just finished all my purging, keywording and rating for my Library. And now I am ready to start using the publishing services. This was perfect timing!
I was curious though, I thought that when you upload to Flickr it does keep your metadata.
I was hoping to use that to upload my full size photos only once to both share with family and for my mom to get the photos she wants to add to her LR library. I was hoping to avoid a double full size upload by having to use a Drop Box type file sharing site for my mom.
Is there a drawback to using Flickr for the metadata type of sharing?
Thanks again for sharing so much with your readers!

Great question. I was so excited to use Flickr to share photos with metadata but somehow in its process, it strips it! I uploaded photos from Lightroom and the metadata shows up just fine in Flickr but on download and import into Lightroom I lost everything. Im still working on a good solution. I have several photos, lettters, etc. from as far back as the 1800s that I am working to share with family. When I find a good thing Ill be sure to share. ;)
